These logs capture the IP address, approximate country and region derived from the IP, the browser user-agent string (truncated), and the attempted username, along with a timestamp. This information is used solely to detect and investigate unauthorised access, enforce rate limits, and meet the standard in Australian Privacy Principle 11 (security of personal information). Administrative access logs are kept separately from public analytics, are retained for 90 days, and are not shared with third parties except where required to investigate a security incident or respond to a lawful request.
The same kind of record is written for one action on the public site, and we would rather say so than leave it implied by the general statement above. When you submit the newsletter or fuel-alert signup form, and that submission is either rate-limited or caught by our automated spam check, we record the same fields - IP address, approximate country and region, truncated user-agent and a timestamp - in our own database, on the same 90-day retention. A submission that goes through normally does not create one of these records. They exist only to stop automated abuse of the signup endpoint, they are never used to build a profile of you or to target anything at you, and they are not shared with third parties except in the circumstances described above.

We use a third-party email service provider to manage and send our fuel alerts and newsletter emails. Your email address is stored on their servers in accordance with data protection standards. The service provider uses your email address only to deliver our messages and does not use it for their own marketing purposes.
We use Google Analytics (GA4) and similar analytics tools to collect and analyse website usage data. These tools use cookies and similar technologies to track your interactions with our website. The data collected is used to generate statistical reports on website activity and is not used to personally identify you. Google may use this data in accordance with their own privacy policy.
